How CBD Gets Rid of Acne
Imagine having an important event to attend or even a date. Imagine putting together the perfect outfit and the perfect hair only to wake up on the D-day to find huge bumps on your face. Devastating right?
Well, that’s the reality of over 50 million people in the United States and a more significant number all over the world.
As one of the most common skin conditions in the world, acne garners a lot of attention, and affected individuals often spend large sums of money trying to find a solution to the condition. In the United States alone, over a billion dollars are expended annually to treat acne and despite this, the skin disease continues to ‘thrive’.
Causes of Acne
Amongst the major causes of acne are excess oil production in the skin, diet, hormonal imbalance, genetics, medication, and stress.
Usually, acne is more likely to appear in areas with more sebaceous glands. The hair follicles are connected to those oil glands, and excess oil production causes the follicle to become clogged.
Acne develops when the hair follicles in the skin are clogged with oil and dead skin cells, allowing the resulting bacteria to cause inflammation and infection. This, in turn, increases the severity of acne and is characterized by the formation of pimples, cyst, whiteheads, and blackheads, usually on the face, forehead, upper back, chest, and shoulders.
In discussing other triggers, Androgen is a type of hormone that increases during puberty, causing the enlargement of oil glands and the production of more oil (sebum).
CBD as Treatment for Acne
As with the many possible causes of acne, the skin condition can be treated with different medications. It is, however, important to note that these medications often come with some undesirable side effects. CBD is a healthier alternative that is 100% natural and has a wholesome effect on the entire human body.
You may have heard that CBD has been used in treating a variety of different health conditions, ranging from anxiety and depression to chronic pain, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. How then can it also be effective in treating acne?
It is the level of interaction between Cannabinoids and the endocannabinoid system that provides us with this vast spectrum to which it can be applied. CBD also possesses some properties that may help provide relief from acne.
CBD is an Antioxidant
With CBD, the production and build up of free radicals in the body can be inhibited, reducing the risks of oxidative stress which plays a major role in the development of acne.CBD is an Antibacterial
The accumulation of bacteria in the hair follicles is a factor which causes acne. CBD has powerful antibacterial properties that will destroy the bacteria before it grows and causes more damage to the skin.CBD Regulates Sebum Production
Excess sebum production is another major cause of acne. In controlling the production of this oily substance, CBD can effectively reduce the likelihood of acne developing. Conclusion
Acne is a prevalent skin condition with a variety of treatment options. CBD with its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant properties has immense potential in the treatment of acne, and the best thing is, it has no known side effects.Want to read some more CBD research articles?
